The method
A method that combines the right way
We don't make you memorise dry material; we train you in the language the way a child learns it — by listening and observation
We listen and appreciate
Every word and every sentence is heard in a clear voice. We hear the whole passage, then take it word by word, until writing and pronunciation are linked in your mind.
We read and reflect
Every lesson contains a text you read with your own eyes. Any word you don't understand? Tap it and an embedded dictionary opens with images of the word — you understand it yourself with ease.
We practise and get acquainted
Interactive exercises on every lesson, plus ongoing practice with Arab teachers.
We review so we don't forget
Spaced review reminds you of a word the moment you are about to forget it — ten minutes a day revisits what you worked hard to learn.
A direct approach
No intermediary language
and no translation to slow you down
We know that an intermediary language and translation slow learning and weaken understanding, so we rely on translation neither on the platform nor in teachers' lessons — we deliver meaning through pictures and context from the very first step.
كِتَابٌ

Questions students often ask
Everything you need to know before you begin — and if you can't find your question, start for free and we'll be with you step by step.
Is learning on Lisan free?
The lessons are entirely free. Following up with teachers does require you to pay them a modest fee, and the site also offers other paid features that help cover running costs.
Do I need any prior knowledge of Arabic?
No. We start with you from the very first letter: we teach you spelling, reading, and everything else, by Allah's grace.
How do I learn without translation?
We convey meaning through pictures and context rather than translation: tap any word and its dictionary entry and images open inside the lesson, so you understand it from context.
Are the lessons live or recorded?
The core curriculum is interactive lessons with audio and video that you can study at any time. And if you want personal follow-up, you can take live lessons with a certified teacher.
How much time do I need each day?
It takes no more than one lesson a day, and ten minutes of review is enough to cement what you've learned through the spaced-repetition system — plus two or three hours a week of live lessons with your teacher.
Are there teachers for formal Arabic to practise and correct mistakes?
Yes, we have certified Arab teachers; teachers are available matched to your gender and you choose as you wish, and you can take a trial lesson before committing.
Which devices can I use Lisan on?
Lisan works from the browser on both mobile and computer, and you can install it as an app on your home screen for quick access.
How do I track my progress?
The progress dashboard shows your path through the levels, your mastery percentage, and the cards due for review — so you always know your next step.
